“I feel lucky to be a member of a centuries-old craft tradition creating useful and affordable art for the middle class. I’m a craftsman at heart striving to make aesthetically beautiful, comfortable and most importantly functional pots.  What excites me? Color and texture. Beautiful forms. Handles that fit both the hand and the pot. Dynamic and resonantly luminous glazing. Kiln openings.”

James has a BA in Ceramics and Art Teaching from Grand Valley State University.  He has been making pots full time since moving to Oregon from Michigan in 2004.  James lives with his wife and two children in foothills surrounding Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge.  He joined Mossy Creek Pottery in 2010.
